Today was another great day in Kununurra. A 7:00am deadline had us out of bed early and chompin’ at the bit for another day. We arrived at our classes once again and were greeted with the ever-smiling faces of the kids. Building on the relations made yesterday, we were keen to dive in and that we did. Notable mentions must go to fan favourite Louis Timms who had been promised a makeup and hair style done by the kids, Anna waking up at 5am, putting in the hard yards and getting some much-needed English study in and the dangerous strike partnership of Hannah and Sophia tearing up the year 3 soccer drove fear into the hearts of the kids.
All tired from the day with the kids we hopped in the car and trundled back to base camp enjoying the soothing melodies of Miss Charlwood’s “Chill Mix”. After a light snack of Kununurra’s freshest produce, we were ready to bounce. Switching up the playlist vibe to “pump up the Girls” we moved swiftly to the gorgeous gorges of Mirima National Park. A scenic 100km route skilfully led by our Self-Proclaimed trail walking master Louise Timms. Legs were tired as we completed the last set of stairs for the long-awaited view of the surrounding landscape. After the quickest turnaround since 2022 Collingwood, we once again jumped into the Kia Carnival looking for a cool off and a swim at the aptly named ‘swim beach’ – the local swimming spot down the river. After the countless asking of if it was croc free and being assured that it was we hopped in… The day concluded with a ‘swim cut short’ by a huge 5 meter 200 kg crocodile reportedly spotted by German tourists watching on. Oli Hasluck claimed he “would be a good meal” due to his “tenderness”. The day ended with the picturesque Kununurra sun set spelling an end to the days proceedings.
